When the Blues Linger: Depressive Mood VS Depression

We all feel sad when life happens. And why shouldn’t we? After all, sadness is a natural reaction to uncontrollable situations such as loss, failure, rejection, or disappointment. It’s part of being a human. But this reaction doesn’t impact our lives significantly, and we recover as time passes.

Depression, on the other hand, isn’t a temporary thing. It’s a mental illness that completely changes the way we perceive our lives. It could linger on for years and has the potential to affect every part of our lives, making us dislike activities that were once part of our routine.

Here, we’ll outline the major causes of both problems and how you can get rid of these. Let’s dive in.

What Causes Depression?
We may feel depressed for a variety of reasons, such as:

  • Stressful life events
  • Emotional abuse
  • Genetic vulnerability
  • And more.

These problems change the symmetry of neurochemicals in our brains. As a result, the “feel good” hormones such as serotonin and dopamine get deregulated, making us feel hopeless, worthless, and unreasonably guilty all the time.

Several studies indicate that depression could appear without any external reason at all. But of course, there’s so much going on internally if you’re feeling low.

What Causes Depressive Mood?
Feeling sad is part of our lives. We may feel low because:

  • Someone close is ill
  • of having a bad day at work
  • our relationship has ended
  • we haven’t achieved our goals

Remember, sadness shouldn’t translate to something significant, and you can start feeling better by just having a small round of exercise or going out with friends. You can also indulge in activities that bring pleasure to leave those disappointing moments behind.

How to Deal with Depression Caused by Raising a Child
Raising a child with emotional disorders takes a heavy toll on your mental health. You may feel powerless to fix your child’s struggles and handle their emotional outbursts. You may also neglect your own self-care and drown in the vicious cycle of depression.

The only way to escape this dilemma is to accept the realities and be kind to yourself. Keep in mind that it’s not your fault, nor are you the only person experiencing this.

By changing your outlook towards challenges, you can get the much-needed motivation and live a fulfilling life despite difficulties.
